Why hello Bloggers

Hello my name is Mariah

I am a second year student of the Bachelor of Learning Management – Secondary.

It is a pleasure to introduce myself and share with you my journey of exploration in understanding education in the twenty first century. I believe that E- Learning is an absolutely essential tool for teachers of the twenty first century to engage and connect with all modern learners.

Although I have never blogged before, I have had the amazing experience of reading and engaging with other individuals academic and personal blogs. I can only hope that the detail and information I share with you is as intriguing and interesting as some of the blogs I have come across.

I am very excited to share with you my learning experience so please embrace my blog and feel free to comment, debate, discuss and collaborate as I would love to consider your opinions, philosophies and experiences.

My Teaching Mantra is spread your wings

It is inspired by a TED clip featuring the renowned Sir Ken Robison.

Sir Ken Robinson communicates the need to transform our education system. I was able to connect with and become inspired by his story about Gillian Lynne.

Sir Ken Robinson explains that Gillian Lynne was labelled as having a learning disability. She was taken to a specialist who fortunately identified that Gillian Lynne was not impaired in any way however, she was inspired and engaged through her passion of dancing.

Gillian Lynne  “auditioned for the Royal Ballet School, she became a soloist, she had a wonderful career at the Royal Ballet, she eventually graduated from the Royal Ballet School and founded her own company … She's been responsible for some of the most successful musical theater productions in history, she's given pleasure to millions, and she's a multimillionaire...”  (TedTalks. (2007, Jan 6). Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity? [Video file]. Retrieved from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9CE55wbtY )

Sir Ken Robinson's reference to Gillian Lynne’s story shows us that as teachers we can not cocoon our learners with the constructs and outdated education system. Alternatively, we need to inspire and nurture our students as they excel through creative, active and engaging learning environments.

Our learners need to be able to spread their wings and venture through our learning experiences to be able to gain a deeper understanding.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy my blog
